Site Overview

Southport Hospital required the development and servicing of a new Endoscopy Ward to support the delivery of healthcare services. The project involved the installation of critical mechanical infrastructure within a live healthcare environment, requiring careful planning, coordination, and compliance with strict NHS and HTM requirements.

Mechanical Installation

The mechanical package included:

  • Full installation of heating services throughout the new Endoscopy Ward.
  • Installation of domestic water services.
  • Installation and commissioning of specialist ventilation systems.
  • Provision of cooling via DX systems.
  • Delivery and assembly of the Air Handling Unit (AHU), which arrived on site in sections and was bolted together in position.
  • Completion of pressure leakage testing on the AHU in accordance with HTM requirements.

  Other Works

In addition to the core mechanical installations, C M Oxendale coordinated the assembly, testing, and commissioning of specialist healthcare ventilation equipment. The project required strict quality assurance procedures to demonstrate compliance with healthcare engineering standards and client requirements.

Challenges

A key challenge of the project was the installation and assembly of a large Air Handling Unit delivered in multiple sections. The AHU had to be assembled on site and subjected to pressure leakage testing to meet HTM performance standards. Delivering these works within a live hospital environment required careful coordination and adherence to strict health and safety procedures.

Project Outcome

The project was successfully completed with all mechanical services installed and commissioned in line with HTM 04-01 and HTM 03-01 healthcare standards. The new Endoscopy Ward was provided with reliable heating, domestic water, ventilation, and cooling systems, helping create a modern clinical environment capable of supporting high-quality patient care.
